UN Chief: Iran Built Missiles Fired Into Saudi Arabia

Missiles fired from Yemen into Saudi Arabia were built in Iran, according to the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

From July 2017 the remnants of five missiles fired by Yemen’s Houthis into Saudi Arabia have key specifics of missiles known to be built by Iran and some of their parts were manufactured in Iran, Guterres added.

Late last month U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis said the missile used by Yemen’s Houthis in April in an unsuccessful attack against a Saudi commercial ship belonged to Iran and was provided to them by this regime.

On April 2nd the Houthis said the attack staged against a Saudi oil tanker was in response to the Arab coalition forces attacking the city of Hodaydah, claiming civilians were killed.

When the U.S. sees an oil tanker targeted by an Iran-made missile, all sea transports in the Red Sea come under threat and this is not acceptable, according to Mattis, pledging to place this subject under control and prevent its escalation.

Recently, the Arab coalition reported of intercepting and destroying numerous ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis to target the city of Jazan in southern Saudi Arabia.

Saudi air defense units intercepted the missile fired from Yemen’s Saada Province in northern Yemen into Saudi soil. The Arab coalition spokesman said the missile was deliberately targeting residential areas and was fortunately destroyed without causing any casualties. Shrapnel and debris fell on residential areas.

The Arab coalition condemned this attack, describing the measure as aggressive action indicating Iran is continuing its terrorist support for the Houthis aiming to threaten Saudi security. The Houthis are now a threat to international security and Iran, by providing advanced weaponry to the Houthis to attack Saudi soil, is blatantly violating UNSC resolutions 2216 and 2231.

The Arab coalition is also emphasizing the Iran-backed Houthi terrorists have fired over 140 ballistic missiles against Saudi Arabia.
