Iran: Khamenei’s Remarks Reveal His Regime’s Current Deadly Impasse

Khamenei’s remarks on Monday highlighted his regime’s current deadly impasse showing that he has no solution in the face of the growing popular uprising and the sharp fall of Iranian currency and no way out of the deadlock that has fully engulfed his regime, according to the Iranian opposition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

According to the NCRI, Khamenei desperately tried to cover up the pervasive dimensions of corruption in his regime while pretending to be unaware of the plundering of Iran’s wealth by the regime’s officials and wasting the national wealth in their nuclear and missile projects and war outside borders.

By opposing negotiation with the United States, Khamenei once again highlighted the fact that changing behavior of his regime would lead to a regime change, admitting that his regime is very weak and fragile. He said: “We can enter a dangerous game of negotiating with the U.S. only when we have reached our favorite economic, political and cultural strength… But right now, under an impossible assumption, we would certainly not negotiate with the current (U.S.) administration.”

While Iranian people in their protest rallies are chanting slogans such as “Let go of Syria, Think about us,” opposing the regime’s intervening foreign policy and engagement in foreign wars in Yemen and Syria, Khamenei emphasized on continuation of criminal interventions in the region and said: “We have helped two friend countries, Syria and Iraq, against the threats of the United States and the Saudis.”

The NCRI in a Statement also highlighted the fact that the possibility of foreign war to change the regime in Iran is a desperate attempt to save the regime by frightening people of the prospect of a looming war and diverting their will for the overthrow of the regime.
