In a message on August 26, 2018, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), expressed her deepest condolences to the McCain family after Senator John McCain’s passing away.

In 2017, Senator McCain, a strong critic of the mullahs’ regime in Iran, visited members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) after their successful transfer from camp Liberty in Iraq to Albania, where he also met with Mrs. Rajavi.

On December 30, 2017, a few days after the Iranian people’s nationwide protests and uprising started across the country, Senator McCain expressed his support for their protests and tweeted: “The U.S. stands with the protesters who yearn for freedom, peace, and an end to corruption in Iran.”

On April 19, 2017, Fox News reported that the regime in Iran, its nuclear program and what critics consider this regime’s utter support for terrorism in the Middle East, were all in the center of discussions in a major rally held in Albania.

“This was a pivoting point for Iran’s main opposition group,” Fox News added. Arizona Senator John McCain delivered a speech at this rally and hailed the Iranian opposition members.

During his meeting with Mrs. Rajavi, the Senator expressed his support for the Iranian opposition’s objectives and once again criticized the Iranian regime for its support of terrorism across the Middle East and also Tehran’s decision to stand alongside the Assad regime in Syria.

Senator McCain praised the Iranian opposition for setting an example for the entire world and proving anyone is able to obtain freedom if determined and willing to sacrifice and pay its price.
