How Iran Regime Views Its Democratic Alternative

Various bodies of the Iranian regime have in one way or another expressed their concerns about the PMOI/MEK and National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) gaining strength as Tehran’s opposition and democratic alternative.

They have been heard parroting two already debunked allegations against the PMOI/MEK, describing this movement as a terrorist entity to scare the Iranian population to at least keep this organization at bay and maybe discourage the West from providing them any support.

Secondly, Iranian regime media is known to accuse the PMOI/MEK of gaining vast international support by paying known dignitaries to voice support to them.

It’s interesting how Tehran has time and again claimed the PMOI/MEK have been completely annihilated, yet they enjoy such power and influence to rally hundreds of high-profile figures from across the globe.

Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, member of the security commission of the regime’s parliament – 30 June 2018:

“The European countries should not play the Mojahedin’s game… Unfortunately, in the past western countries… have supported them in some cases… France should not follow the US foreign policy and refuse to become a center for fostering terrorists…Holding this (PMOI/MEK) session is definitely condemned. The Islamic Republic will react to that.”

Taghavi Hosseini, another member of the regime’s security commission:

“(PMOI/MEK) have spent huge amounts of money to purchase speakers from western countries and invite them to their sessions… Last year, we raised the issue in a meeting with the French National Assembly president, saying how can the (PMOI/MEK)… freely hold sessions in a country claiming to be fighting terrorism. How can US officials, who attack various countries under the pretext of fighting terrorism, take part in such rallies that are held by terrorist groups and actually support these organizers?”

Alireza Rahimi, member of the parliament’s executive board:

“US officials taking part in (PMOI/MEK) sessions in Paris shows their claim of fighting terrorism is a flagrant lie.”

There is also another list of Iranian regime figures linking the PMOI/MEK rallies to “America’s political games,” hoping to maybe portray this alternative movement as a byproduct of foreign countries.

Of course, the PMOI/MEK have for 40 years remained steadfast in their principles against the Iranian regime. Despite the West’s appeasement policy that have mainly benefited the Iranian regime, the PMOI/MEK have continued their revelations regarding the mullahs’ nuclear weapons ambitions, their support for terrorism and human rights violations at home.

“The PMOI/MEK’s measures, with US and European collaboration in holding their annual convention, all compiles down to America’s psychological war against Iran… They’re looking to install fear among the people about insecurity inside the country and influence senior officials’ calculations,” said Hamid Reza Taraghi, a figure close to the regime’s hardliners.

“Certain is the fact that the US has used all its tools and assets to pressure Iran to have our country change its behavior. In this regard Europe has cooperated with America,” he added.

“Even without any significant changes, this group-lets name is no longer in the West’s blacklists, in fact, with a new mission in mind, they’ve gained special attention in the West, especially that of the United States and some mischievous European Union members, including France.

“The participation of figures close to [US President Donald] Trump, including Trump lawyer Mayor Rudy Giuliani and [former House Speaker] Newt Gingrich, along with a number of disappointed and radical figures such as former Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper… and [former French foreign minister] Bernard Kouchner and others in PMOI/MEK sessions clearly show the West-Israel-Arab plot against Iran.”

State-run Vatan-e Emruz daily, 4 July 2018

“This wish has been repeated in the past few days that the PMOI and they’re collaborates… are the criminal West’s preferred alternative option for Iran’s future.”

Regardless of anyone’s opinions, such remarks from the regime’s own outlets are very telling about how Iran’s mullahs consider the PMOI/MEK as the sole entity posing a meaningful threat to their rule.
