A large number of people gathered in front of the Majlis (Parliament) in Tehran on Saturday, August 18, to express their outrage at the government’s treacherous and disgraceful sell out of the Caspian Sea, one of the most important natural resources in Iran.

The demonstrators in front of the Parliament chanted anti-regime slogans including “death to Rouhani (Iranian Regime’s President), and “we shall fight, we shall win back our Caspian Sea” and “selling out the Caspian is like selling out your honor.”

Repressive State Security Forces and anti-riot guards attacked the protesters in front of the parliament trying to stop the protest. Reports indicate that a number of protesters were arrested by the security forces and taken to undisclosed locations.

The Caspian Sea Treaty was signed on Sunday, August 12, after two decades of disputes. This accord paves the path for the Caspian Sea to be divided between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Iran. Further agreements were reached over a ban on ships belonging to countries other than the five bordering states, and the export of the Caspian’s oil and gas exports. Following the agreement, Iran’s share of the Caspian Sea plummets from roughly 50 percent to 11 percent!

“Undermining the Iranian nation’s national interests, including one trillion dollars in damages from the unpatriotic war with Iraq, the destruction of the environment, the drying up of the nation’s water reserves, the plunder of the Iranian people’s wealth and its squander on exporting terrorism, warmongering, and nuclear and missile programs, are all familiar devices of the mullahs’ regime that has declared safeguarding the totalitarian rule of the Velayat-e faqih (absolute clerical ruler) as the absolute imperative,” the National Council of Resistance of Iran said in a Statement on Tuesday.

In this regard, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, said: “For Khomeini, Khamenei and Rouhani, neither water, nor the land, nor the culture, nor the lives, nor the wealth of the Iranian people have any value. Only one thing matters: Preserving the rule of the mullahs, which Khomeini described as the ‘absolute imperative,’ and for which one can abrogate Islamic edicts, and first and foremost give away the land and water of Iran and its people and massacre its valiant children in the prisons.”

She added “Indeed, what could an invader do that the mullahs have not done to Iran and the Iranian people. The mullahs are among the worst in Iran’s history.”
