For Iranian Accountability Week, the senators begin a study on human rights abuses in Iran. Appearing in the first panel are Houchang Hassan-Yari (professor of political science, Royal Military College of Canada) and Mark Dubowitz (executive director, Foundation for Defense of Democracies) who discuss the rights of political prisoners, the use of sanctions, and more. In the second panel, Ahmed Shaheed (United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation oh human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran) speaks about his United Nations’ mandate to review human rights in Iran.
