Heavy truck drivers and truckers continued their new round of nationwide strikes in different cities across Iran for the 10th consecutive day on Saturday, November 10, while a number of cities have been the scene of numerous protests and strikes in the first week of November.

Earlier in June, August and September, they staged strikes to protest severe living conditions, low freight rates, high cost of spare parts, severe insurance conditions, and many other difficulties they are facing due to mismanagement by the corrupt regime officials including top leaders of the regime. The October strike lasted 21 days, according to a Statement by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

In the fourth round of their strike, in addition to their previous demands, drivers called for the release of their colleagues who were arrested during the third round of strikes. The regime was struggling to prevent the strike through all kinds of pressures and threats.

Employees of the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Company have continued their strike for the seventh day in a row in protest of non-payment of their claims inside the company. Some of them took their protest into the city to make the voices of their innocence and their desires heard. These workers are protesting mismanagement of the company and seeking answers to their demands including wage arrears and unpaid salaries and benefits for months.

Protests and Strikes by the National Steel Group Workers in Ahvaz

Workers of the Ahvaz National Steel Group also protested on Saturday, gathering in front of the governor’s office in the city. They chanted: No nation has seen so much injustice; “Hossein Hossein” is their slogan, theft is their pride; what have behind the scene hands done with the factory?

Workers of Line 6 project of Tehran urban trains also protested against the non-payment of their salaries in front of the headquarters of the company.

Parts of the bazaar and shopkeepers in Tehran’s 15 Khordad Street refused to open their shops to protest against the high costs and lack of goods resulting in loss of customers who cannot afford to shop.

Deprived farmers of cities and villages in Isfahan province including Ghahderijan. Varzaneh, Najaf Abad, Khorasgan and others continued their demonstrations and sit-ins to their difficult livelihood conditions and deprivation of their right to water. They were chanting: “Lest we are humiliated!” and “The Zayandeh Roud (share of) water is our inalienable right.”

On Friday, November 9, Mullah Alam-ul-Hoda, a member of the regime’s Assembly of Experts and representative of Khamenei in Mashhad, confessed: “Over 40% inflation caused by the recession brought the economy into a ruin. …This is the situation of our workers who have become unemployed, with their families left without food, and the miners who work in the worst possible situation, they work in the mine, underground and they do not get paid their daily wages.”

The Iranian Resistance President-elect, Maryam Rajavi, hailed the strikers and called on fellow citizens, especially the youth, to show their solidarity and support them. As long as this corrupt and medieval regime is in power, poverty, inflation and unemployment that they brought to our country will continue, Mrs. Rajavi said.
